My entire experience, from first appointments through postpartum care was excellent. The midwives at Birthroot made me feel comfortable and confident while navigating the complexities of family life, a second child on the way, a toddler who brings home colds what seems like weekly – I felt holistically supported, and in turn, confident to take on the challenge of natural birth and a new phase in motherhood. My first was born at home in California before we moved here to Bellingham. When I fell pregnant again, I knew that a natural birth in a comfortable setting was what I desired, but with an unpredictable toddler at home, no family nearby to help when I went into labor and a further distance drive to emergent care from home – just in case (living in Sudden Valley), the birth center was the best option for our family. once in labor, the staff helped us navigate when to arrive, and once we settled into the birth suite, I felt calm and comfortable (as comfortable as one can be in labor). I had ample room to move around, from tub to standing to bed – the whole menu. When my labor was taking longer than I expected with a second, our midwife gave me rest and strength by guiding me through new positions while ensuring I felt good with each choice and change. We made decisions together, and our son was born in a peaceful environment, surrounded by a few wonderful people who I knew well and who’s smiles and “congratulations!” felt real, like the village we didn’t have moving to a new town. I am forever grateful and at awe with the service and mission of Birthroot. I recommend the experience of bringing new life into the world in their care to anyone who asks. Thank you!
